On Wednesday, Chelsea overcame an early scare to defeat fourth-tier AFC Wimbledon 2-1 at Stamford Bridge in the second round of the League Cup after coming back from a goal down.
After Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez fouled Harry Pell inside the penalty area in the 19th minute, the League Two visitors unexpectedly seized the lead on James Tilley’s penalty kick.
The majority of possession remained in Chelsea’s favor, but until they were given a penalty for a foul on Noni Madueke in first-half stoppage time, the forward for England’s under-21 national team failed to convert it.
With his first goal for the team, substitute Enzo Fernandez scored the game-winning goal for the home team in the 72nd minute.
