Dangote Group debunks media report claiming refinery is reselling crude “This is outright falsehood as we are not authorised to sell any crude we buy from Nigeria! Also, our CDU is working and in perfect condition,” Dangote Group’s chief spokesperson said. byRonald Adamolekun The Dangote Group has disproved a media report, which claimed that its oil refining arm, Dangote Refinery, is reselling crude sourced from the United States and Nigeria, where the 650,000 barrels-per-day (bpd) is based. Reuters reported Friday it spoke to four trade sources, who disclosed that the Lagos-based refinery is offering the crude to buyers following technical constraints at…

The American Israel Public Affairs Committee was an unusual group that spent the most time outside of the Democratic primary in 2022. AIPAC, the Republican mega-donor-backed organization committed to upholding the US government’s strong backing for Israel’s far-right government, is planning to spend an astounding $100 million through its super PAC, the United Democracy Project, this year. The man at the party who makes you realize that you haven’t truly lived is Nicholas Kristof. The world has been Kristof’s oyster as you drive from point A to point B and live a routine nine-to-five life. The New York Times columnist, a real global citizen who craves adventure, can distinguish himself as such by showing off his stories from Asia and Africa on a fully stamped passport and embarrassing everyone. Even worse, he uses unusual datelines as trump cards to support his neoliberalism masquerading as progressive thinking: US imperialism can be beneficial (2/1/02), sweatshops benefit workers (1/14/09), and…
Use Up/Down Arrow keys to increase or decrease volume. Rolling Stone (6/10/24) This week on CounterSpin: Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito wrote dozens of pages justifying his decision in Dobbs v. Jackson, stating the Constitution does not confer the right to determine whether or when to give birth. None of those pages mention his intention to make the United States “a place of godliness,” or his belief that there can be no compromise on such concerns, because “one side or the other is going to win.” Yet those are thoughts Alito freely expressed with a woman he thought was just a stranger at a public event.…
One hundred years ago this month, I was reminded by Portside’s “This Week in People’s History” feature (5/29/23), a constitutional amendment passed both houses of Congress, with large majorities, and went to the states for ratification. It remains a proposal, not a law, to this day, because the necessary three-quarters of states didn’t accept it. The proposal is the Child Labor Amendment, giving Congress authority to regulate “labor of persons under 18 years of age.” Efforts to protect children from dangerous work continued anyway, of course, and the 1938 Fair Labor Standards Act included prohibitions on children under 14 working in…
